Ideal for pumping water from a storage tank/cistern into your home without the need for an extra tank.
Looking to booster your current city water pressure?
Information provided below is for boosting existing city water pressure only!
NOTE; If your existing water pressure is not over 10psi, the pressure reducing valve is not required.
You must reduce incoming water pressure to the MQ3 inlet to accomplish this properly.
Reducing pressure by using a pressure reducing valve on the outlet is not recommended.
Reducing inlet water pressure is done by installing directly on the inlet nut of the MQ3 a 1" FNPT pressure reducing valve found above that provides manual adjustment for control of the inlet water pressure.
The pressure reducing valve allows the user to control inlet pressure from 10 to 35psi (for safety reasons the pump will not start if inlet pressure exceeds 29psi).
The MQ3 outlet pressure will be the total of the inlet psi + pressure the MQ3 model provides with 0psi flooded inlet.

The Grundfos MQ3 multi-stage pump works without an additional tank making it the easiest way to boost city water pressure. The Grundfos MQ3 is also a perfect solution for pumping water from your storage tank or shallow well.
The Grundfos MQ3 is a self-priming multistage centrifugal pump. The Grundfos MQ3 self-primes from a well depth down to 25 feet within a maximum time of five minutes. The Grundfos MQ3 pump is a perfect solution when pumping water from a storage tank. The Grundfos MQ3 is also a great solution to boosting city water pressure. When boosting water pressure we suggest the MQ3-35 3/4HP using an inlet pressure of 10 to 15PSI. Remember (inlet pressure(?) + MQ3 available pressure = outlet pressure). Therefore the outlet pressure can be adjusted to meet your needs by simply adjusting the inlet pressure using the suggested direct fit PRV listed above. The Grundfos MQ3 centrifugal pump is built for long-life, trouble-free operation. It is made from weatherproof, corrosion-resistant materials and the motor is water cooled. When mounted outside it should be fully covered to avoid the elements.
EASY TO SELECT
The Grundfos MQ makes it easy to select the right water booster pump. The MQ is an all-in-one unit with two models to choose from. There is no need to worry about a separate pressure tank, pressure switch, electrical connections, fittings or any other separate items. With MQ, it is literally a matter of connecting the power and turning on the jet pump. Installation of an MQ pump is simple and can be done in a matter of minutes, which gives you more time to relax. The Grundfos MQ features an easy-to-use control panel with indicator lights for indication of:
- pump on
- auto reset
- alarm (dry-running or overheating).
UNIQUE USER BENEFITS
"Whisper quiet operation," the MQ is specially designed for use in domestic applications where low noise is a major consideration. The pump is cooled by the pumped water which eliminated the need for a noisy cooling fan. Because the pump is self cooling, you don’t need to have free space around the pump for cooling purposes. The MQ "anti-cycling" feature prevents the pump from continuously starting and stopping when you have a dripping tap or minor leak in the system.
PROTECTIVE FEATURES
The MQ pump has built-in dry-run protection. If the pump runs dry, the pump automatically stops. It will then attempt to restart every half hour for a maximum of 24 hours until water is available from the source. If more than 24 hours pass without water, the pump must be restarted manually. The auto reset function can also be disabled. The Grundfos M Q pump also has built-in thermal protection. If the pump overheats it immediately stops. After a 30-minute cooling-down period, the pump will automatically restart. The Grundfos M Q has an easy accessible priming plug for filling the pump with water before start. It also has a drain plug to prevent the pump from freezing.
